چکیده

Introduction Estrogens can influence skeletal muscles activity by stimulating angioand muscle-genesis. These hormones act through specific alpha and beta estrogen receptors (ER). Muscular tissue may be a target for estrogens, however there is no data on ER expression in paravertebral muscles in patients with idiopathic scoliosis (IS). During early adolescence the increase of estrogen serum level coincidences with the period of rapid scoliosis progression. The aim of the study was to investigate ER alpha expression in the paravertebral muscles of patients with IS.

Proline, glutamic acid, and leucine rich protein 1 (PELP1) expression in deep paravertebral muscles in idiopathic scoliosis girls

Objectives Estrogens and their receptors are postulated to be important factors in development of idiopathic scoliosis. Transcription functions of estrogen receptors are influenced by coregulators such as proline, glutamic acid, and leucine rich protein 1 (PELP1). Deep paravertebral muscles are potential elements participating in idiopathic scoliosis development. The aim of the present study wa...

Expression of Estrogen Receptor Coactivator Proline-, Glutamic Acid- and Leucine-Rich Protein 1 within Paraspinal Muscles in Adolescents with Idiopathic Scoliosis

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to detect and assess the estrogen receptor (ESR) coactivator PELP1 expression within human paraspinal skeletal muscles in patients suffering from idiopathic scoliosis. METHODS During surgical correction of scoliosis the muscle biopsies harvested in 29 females. Presence of PELP1, ESR1 and ESR2 genes transcripts was studied using RT-qPCR technique while immunoh...

Volumetric and Fatty Infiltration Imbalance of Deep Paravertebral Muscles in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

BACKGROUND Several studies have described the differences in electromyographic activity and histological changes of paravertebral muscles in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). However, there is little knowledge about the muscle volumetric and fatty infiltration imbalance of patients with AIS. MATERIAL AND METHODS Thirty-four patients with AIS were evaluated with standardized a...

Vitamin D Receptor gene (VDR) transcripts in bone, cartilage, muscles and blood and microarray analysis of vitamin D responsive genes expression in paravertebral muscles of Juvenile and Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis patients

BACKGROUND VDR may be considered as a candidate gene potentially related to idiopathic scoliosis susceptibility and natural history. Transcriptional profile of VDR mRNA isoforms might be changed in the structural tissues of the scoliotic spine and potentially influence the expression of VDR responsive genes. The purpose of the study was to determine differences in mRNA abundance of VDR isoforms...

Pathogenesis of Idiopathic Scoliosis

28 A clear understanding of the pathogenesis of idiopathic scoliosis is essential to appreciating its clinical behavior. Although epidemiological surveys have shown an enormous number of children with minor coronal-plane deformities of the spine, only a relatively small number show evidence of progressive idiopathic scoliosis, which means that other factors must be superimposed to make a deform...
